The young Korean soprano Guibee Yang finishes her studies in June 2010 at the Unversitiy for Music and Theatre in Munich, where she has been studying since 2006. Already in 2001, she commenced her vocal studies in Seoul.
In the last two years, Guibee Yang could be heard repeatedly at the Prinzregententheater Munich, among other things as Rose in Sleeping Beauty (Engelberg Humperdinck) under Ulf Schirmer, as Fairy Queen (Henry Purcell) and as Rezia (The pilgrims of Mekka by Chr. W. Gluck). With the last production, she also toured to the international Gluck Opera Festival at Staatstheater Nuremberg, to the Fränkische Woche held at Bayreuth Opera and to Theater Ingolstadt, where she appeared as well very successfully as Fairy Queen. In 2009, she sang in Mozart’s Il re pastore the part of Aminta at Theater Augsburg.
In her homeland South Korea, Guibee Yang has previously appeared on stage as Susanna (Le Nozze di Figaro) and Rosina (Il barbiere di Siviglia), as well as in Menotti’s Amahl and the Night Visitors.
The soprano furthermore sang works by J.A. Hasse and W. A. Mozart at Salzach Festival in a concert organised by the Hasse Society Munich. In 2009, she presented herself with a baroque programme accompanied by the Reichenhaller Philharmonie.
Guibee Yang appeared in concert with orchestras such as the Munich Radio Orchestra, the WDR Symphony Orchestra Cologne, the Munich Chamber Orchestra and the Neue Hofkapelle Munich.
Guibee Yang has received numerous prizes at singing competitions in South Korea. In Germany, she was nominated laureate in Hamburg and at the singing competition Bergheimer Sängerpreis, which had its final concert with the WDR Radio Symphony Orchestra Cologne. At the 15th International Singing Competition Ferruccio Tagliavini she received the Karl-Böhm-Preis for the best Mozart-interpretation. Furthermore, she won prizes at the international competitions Gian Paolo Cresci and Maria Caniglia, as well as the audience prize at the second Lions singing competition at Gut Immling.
The young soprano has already debutted : Pamina, Gilda, Alcina Isotta, (Die Schweigsame Frau) Gretel, Inés (L’Africaine) Swan (Swan Hunter by J. Dove); Silvia (Ascanio in Alba W.A. Mozart), Aminta (Il Re Pastore W.A. Mozart) Fairy Queen H. Purcell, Rezia (Die Pilger von Mekka by Gluck); Susanna ( Le nozze di Figaro) and Despina.
